I'm not sure how many people read this group anymore. It doesn't look
like it has much traffic, but I'm not sure it even did. There was a
hoppin' Lou email list back in the late 90s, but I lost track of it.
Anyway...

I caught Lou's concert in Redwood City, CA on Tuesday. Redwood City is
about half way between San Francisco and San Jose. Looks like he did a
small tour of smaller cities in California.

The show was Lou, Rob Wasserman and Fernando Saunders. Most of the
time, Lou was on guitar and Rob and Fernando were playing basses, often
two upright ones. Rob's was a deep bass and Fernando's was more like a
cello in side, and often bowed. I've seen Lou a few times and sometimes
he's very chatty and sometimes he barely says a world. On tuesday he
was very, very chatting, making jokes and commenting on the
just-completed election.

The set list was not what I expected. A few songs from The Raven, Magic
and Loss (What's Good, Gassed and Stoked, Sword of Dam.), Estacy (Rock
Minuet, Baton Rouge). He did do Femme Fatale, but other than that until
the Encore I believe the whole show was from those three albums. So, it
was not his most up-beat material. The standouts were Sword and Rock
Minuet. I never really liked Rock Minuet, but the version we heard was
really excellent! I was suprised nothing from Twilight, given the
period he was covering, but much of that was too up-beat for the show,
I guess.

The last song before the Encores was a blues cover called "Keep my
grave clean", and was really excellent. I'd love to get a recording of
that.

The first Encore was a "new song" which was "just for fun" called
"Gravity. The second was Dirty Blvd, which I also loved.

Seemed like the three of them were working a lot of stuff out on these
small venue stops, so perhaps there is a bigger tour to come. We felt a
little like a rehersal audience, but it was a good time.

The concert ran nearly 2 hours, no opening act. Seemd like about 45
minutes, tops!
